Adjustable steel props are one of the few pieces of construction equipment that can genuinely be described as universal. You will find them on a suburban home addition, inside a downtown high-rise under construction, and at the edge of a highway bridge being poured over a river. They are not glamorous, but they are essential wherever concrete needs to be held in place temporarily. Here is a look at how they perform across the full spectrum of applications.

Residential Construction
For home additions, garage slabs, and small-scale residential projects, light to medium-duty steel props are the go-to solution. A typical residential pour involves slab-on-grade work at heights between 1.5 and 2.5 meters, with relatively modest concrete volumes. One or two workers can set and strip a full grid of props in a morning. Light-duty props — rated at 800 to 1,200 kg — are more than adequate for most residential work, and their lower weight makes them easier to handle on sites with limited access. The compact collapsed length of standard adjustable props also means they can be transported to residential backyards in a standard pickup truck.
Multi-Story Residential and Commercial Buildings
As buildings get taller, the complexity of shoring grows. Each floor has a different slab thickness, different beam geometry, and different soffit height — and all of it needs to be supported simultaneously while the concrete cures. Industrial shutdowns and maintenance projects often require temporary support for pipework, tank shells, and structural steel during repair or replacement work. In these environments, access is constrained, the surrounding structure is often uneven, and the support requirements are highly specific to each shutdown scope. Adjustable steel props are ideal here because they can be configured to reach awkward heights and fit into confined spaces where larger equipment simply cannot go. Tunnel and Underground Construction
Steel props are used in cut-and-cover tunnel construction to support the temporary roof structure while the permanent tunnel lining is built below. Restoring old buildings throws up unique challenges — existing slab depths, floor heights, and structural configurations are often undocumented, irregular, or changed by previous alterations. Adjustable steel props are the most flexible solution for temporary support during renovation work because they adapt to whatever dimensions are actually there rather than requiring the measured regularity of a new-build design. Low-height props, long-extending props, and props with custom head configurations all see use in renovation work.
